Veteran fundraiser joins USFSP
The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is welcoming a new leader in philanthropy and alumni relations as Deborah Read becomes its new vice chancellor for advancement. She will develop and implement a strategic agenda to boost USFSP fundraising. Read comes from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, where she served as vice president for university advancement and CEO of the Cal Poly Foundation. She also has worked at universities in Ohio, New York and Kentucky, designing and leading fundraising campaigns of up to $500 million. "Deborah brings extensive experience to her role, having served as a major gifts officer for nearly 20 years at public and private research universities, regional universities, and a private liberal arts college," Regional Chancellor Sophia Wisniewska said in a statement. "I look forward to working closely with her as we continue to develop our own culture of philanthropy."
Lawyer to fill SPC board slot temporarily
Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a new member of the St. Petersburg College Board of Trustees. Belleair resident Katherine E. Cole, an attorney active in Pinellas County, will fill a vacant seat for a short period, until the end of May. Cole's legal work involves representing real estate owners developing commercial projects and residential subdivisions. She is chair-elect for the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce and has served on other local boards, task forces and philanthropic committees.
SPC Seminole hosts event on IT careers
St. Petersburg College welcomes the public to a career exploration night on April 4 at the College of Computer & Information Technology in Seminole. Attendees will be able to meet with local employers, including CEO Cindy Brown of Pratt Brown & Associates, who will talk about how to break into this growing industry. Other panelists represent Raymond James and Tech Data, among others. The event runs from 6-8 p.m. in the SPC Seminole conference center, 9200 113th St. N. Attendees are encouraged to bring a resume.
